Healthy diet is a pretty broad term that comprises of many factors such as quantity, nutrient value, contribution from several food groups and many more. All these factors will be dealt in detail in this article, but primarily let us first understand what a balanced healthy diet is all about.

A well balanced healthy diet comprises of all the macro and micro nutrients that all of us require in right proportions for normal functioning of our body system. These micro and macro nutrients collectively play an important role in building body’s immune system that wards off several diseases effectively.

Having understood the basics of balanced and more so a balanced healthy diet it becomes necessary for us to peep into our food plate. In a research it was found that majority opt for fast foods, that come loaded with lots of calories and stuffed with trans fats making it an unhealthy food option. So, the first corrective measure that we should take is to give ourselves a meal comprising of as many nutritious foods as we can.

Dieticians recommend to include cereals, pulses, vegetables, and one serving of dairy product and not to forget salad in our daily meal. Plenty of salads and greens not only add the color of green to our meal but also give the boost of vitamins and minerals that our body requires. Non-veg lovers can easily add one serving of either fish or meat to their diet. But it is highly advisable to take lean meats and chicken. Dieticians also recommend fish as they are excellent sources of omega 3 fatty acids so should be consumed at least 2 – 3 times a week. In addition, at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables should be consumed in a week.

Adding as many as nutritious food to your meal doesn’t mean to start eating them in excess amount. This may lead to overeating that keeps you away from maintaining a healthy living. The simplest way to keep away from over eating is to stop eating when you are still a bit hungry. This ensures that a portion of your stomach is still empty that makes digestion fast and your body will consume all the nutrients more easily. This is important because many individuals have a tendency to over eat and they keep gorging on food till they are absolutely full; so full that a morsel more and they would puke out.

With all these being said, it becomes necessary that we eat a balanced healthy diet which is a key to good health and living!!
